Alfred Nobel
Alfred Nobel is probably the most famous Swedish name in the world. Is there anyone who hasn´t heard of the Nobel Prize, the rules for which he wrote in his will?
Nobel grew up in St Petersburg and spent much of his life travelling. Towards the end of his lifetime he bought the Bofors ironworks in Karlskoga as the site of his Swedish HQ. The aging cosmopolitan fell in love with the beautiful little manor house at Björkborn and set up his laboratory here with the best equipment of the day.
On 10 December each year we celebrate Nobel Day together with television viewers around the world but Nobel´s memory is most tangible here at Björkborn. Pay Nobel a visit in his beautiful, stylish manor house and exciting laboratory — it´s not every day you get to spend time with a genius!
