Canoeing in Region Örebro
Örebro County offers some of the most diverse canoe routes in the country. You may choose to paddle in the outer archipelago of Lake Vättern or slowly make your way down the winding Nittälven, with the wilderness as your only neighbor. Canoeing is a wonderful activity for children. Many school groups and families with children paddle our routes every year. It is simple to rent a canoe—rental agencies can be found throughout the county. From north to south, there are six canoe routes in Örebro County, all of which are easily traveled. Rapid stretches and power stations are clearly designated and take-outs are marked for land transport. Along the routes there are rest areas and wind shelters that can be used for overnight lodging. Fact sheets with maps are available for each of the routes. Here you will find detailed information regarding points of interest and things to keep in mind. It is recommended that you take your own wood with you to rest areas, and we ask that you please remove your own rubbish. A comfortable paddling speed will yield an average rate of 4- 6 km(2.5- 3.7 miles ) per hour. Plan extra time for discoveries, rests, cooking and camping life. We advise you to always take along a canoe trolley, which will make land transport easier. The upper parts of some routes (particularly Nittälven) are only able to be paddled when the water level is high. More information can be found in the fact sheets.
